The article carries out a comprehensive study of the socio-economic characteristics of the regions of Ukraine in the conditions of modern transformational changes, covering structural, demographic and institutional aspects of development. The relevance of the study is due to the strengthening of interregional differentiation, changes in the spatial organization of the economy, the impact of military operations and the need to form new approaches to ensuring sustainable regional development. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the features of the socio-economic development of the regions of Ukraine in the conditions of transformations and to identify areas for increasing their adaptability and balance. The research process used a complex of general scientific and special methods, in particular a systemic approach, methods of analysis and synthesis, generalization, structural and logical modeling and comparative analysis. The article analyzes the impact of transformational changes on the socio-economic development of the regions of Ukraine, in particular taking into account military factors, internal population migration, relocation of enterprises and changes in the sectoral structure of the economy. It has been established that modern transformations are accompanied by a simultaneous deepening of interregional disparities and the formation of new centers of economic growth. A system of indicators for a comprehensive assessment of the socio-economic state of regions has been proposed, which includes economic, social, demographic, infrastructural and institutional indicators. On this basis, a generalization of the current state of regional development has been carried out and the feasibility of using an integrated approach to its analysis has been substantiated. A typology of regions of Ukraine has been developed by the level of adaptability to transformational changes, within which regions with high, medium and low levels of adaptability have been identified. It has been proven that the key factors of differentiation are the level of diversification of the economy, institutional capacity, investment activity and social stability. The main directions for ensuring balanced development of regions of Ukraine have been substantiated, which include increasing adaptive potential, diversification of the economy, development of infrastructure, improvement of the institutional environment and strengthening the social component of development. It has been determined that the effective implementation of these areas creates the prerequisites for the formation of sustainable and competitive regional systems in conditions of uncertainty.
